James Gay Jones was a history teacher at Glenville State College. he was the first to teach a class on West Virginia history in the state.  Jones understood these tales on an emotional level that likely would have escaped researchers from outside, who may have taken a more clinical or reductionist approach. Dr. Jones’ full-color retellings of folk stories gave insight into both the extraordinary hardships faced by the people living in the hills and hollers, as well as the simple pleasures that made life worth living.

Nineteen ghost stories, many passed down from generation to generation starting in England, and enduring and re told in the hills of West Virginia.
